Lake Alexandrina – A Lady of Tranquility

Late afternoon light on Lake Alexandrina

South Canterbury Paradise

Situated west of the much visited Lake Tekapo with its Church of the Good Shepherd and Dog statue,  Lake Alexandrina has to be one of New Zealands best kept secrets.

Nestled below the Garmack Range she reclines in magnificent splendor amongst barren rolling foothills adjacent to the Godley Peaks road.  This spring fed lake is a trout fisherman’s paradise and there are two small settlements of Cribs or fishing huts, one at the southern end and the other at the outlet halfway up the eastern shoreline.
